Overweight & world resources.- A team of researchers at the
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the University of London assure that the increasing rates of overweight people in the world could have as much impact on global resources as maintaining an extra billion people.
For the research, experts calculate the total weight of people on the planet, finding out that the highest average was in North America. In fact, although only 6% of the global population lives in that area, North America has a third of obese people in the world
The results of the study, which was possible after calculating the weight and overweight of people around the world using data reported by the
World Health Organization (WHO) and correspondent to the year 2005, have been recently published in the scientific magazine “BMC Public Health”.
Experts reached the conclusions that most of the considered rich countries do not follow healthy food habits, with the exception of Japan that could be taken as a role model, while modern lifestyle could be blamed for the statistics.
